Korean ice dessert – Bingsu

Shaved ice or Bingsu (빙수), a dessert so simple and so delicious. Actually it’s just ice flakes mixed with sweetened condensed milk, azuki beans, rice cakes (떡 – tteok) and other optional ingredients like fruits or grounded grain powder. It’s very popular in Korea. If you try it, you will understand why. 😀 Endless variations because literally everything can be used as a topping. The most traditional form of Bingsu is Patbingsu (팥빙수), only shaved ice, sweet red beans and grain powder.

Nothing is better than enjoying a cold bowl of Bingsu with your best friends on a hot summer day. Drink some iced americano or tea, too. All over Seoul and Korea this sweet treat is sold, even at bakeries like „Paris baguette“. In my opinion the best spots to find those dessert restaurants are in Insadong and Myeongdong. No worries you will definitely find Patbingsu. 😀 Did I mention that it is not that expensive ?! For a few euros/dollars you will get the traditional ones and if you pay a little bit more, you can expect a fancy bowl of snow flakes with extra toppings. Be careful this snack is very addictive 🙂
